Commonwealth Scholars to Present Education Roadmap to FG

The Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association of Nigeria (COSFAN) has disclosed that it has set up a committee of education professionals that would fashion out a new roadmap proposal to the federal government on how to enhance the quality and standard of education in the country.
It said the development would also assist the country to change the current narrative associated with its education sector and proffer a new approach that would bring positive educational advancement.
The association is a non-profit organisation consisting of eminent Nigerians who have enjoyed the sponsorship of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), United Kingdom in their respective postgraduate pursuits between 1960 and present.
Addressing journalists in Ilorin on the annual Commonwealth Day 2018 tagged ‘Towards a Common Future’, the Kwara State chapter of the association said the attainment of the new roadmap for the country’s education sector would prepare students to have a great future since they are the leaders of tomorrow.
The General Secretary, Mrs. Biola Adimula, who spoke on behalf of the association, said “we met recently on how to improve on the education of Nigeria because the present situation calls for urgent attention.
“And we have to take it upon ourselves and we also engaged professionals from UK to come and talk to us on this education issue in Nigeria. We discovered that we have a lot of skilled people, experienced people, people that are competent to work for the educational services of the country.
“These are the categories of people of like professionals, professors, professors emeritus, past vice-chancellors of nation’s universities and we spoke with ourselves at length that this is the time to have a new roadmap for the education sector in Nigeria so as to provide a new lease of life for the upcoming students of the country.
“I want to say that we have set up a committee of these professionals that would give proposal on the new road map on education sector to the federal government through the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu for consideration in order to have a sustainable educational development in the country.”
On this year’s celebration, Adimula said there would be debate, spelling bee competition, exhibition, speeches on Commonwealth and future of education in Nigeria, among others.
She said the event that will hold at Borstal Institution, Ilorin will be attended by the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed and top government functionaries in the state.
She added that the association would continue to embark on programmes that would improve the future of students to enable them excel in their academics.
