Court Adjourns Zakzaky’s Case Till October 4

A Kaduna State High Court sitting on Thursday fixed October 4, for ruling on the bail application for the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Shiekh Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his wife, Zinat.

Zazaky and his wife are standing trial for alleged homicide.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Gideon Kurada, adjourned the matter after counsel to the defendants; Mr. Maxwell Kyon moved the application for the bail of the first and second defendants.

Journalists were prevented from the proceedings of the court as they were not allowed into the court premises by security personnel.

But speaking in an interview after the court sitting, Kyon said the defense counsel had filed a bail application and the prosecution had also filed their response.

He said ruling on the bail application had been fixed for October 4.
“We have moved application for bail for the first and second accused and are optimistic of getting bail for our clients,” he said.

Also speaking with journalists after the court session, the prosecution counsel, Chris Umar, said the 3rd and 4th respondents had been served through newspaper publications.

There was tight security at strategic points during the sitting of the court as armed security personnel barricaded major roads within the city to prevent any outbreak of law an order.
