The gale of defections in Kwara State continued Thursday as 16 chairmen of local government areas (LGA) in the state dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The leader of APC in the state and Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, six members of the House of Representatives, two senators and all the political structure of Saraki had all defected to PDP.

Also, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad and 23 members of the assembly had dumped APC and joined the PDP, while Hon.Saheed Popoola representing Ojomu/Balogun state constituency remained the only lawmaker in the APC in the state House of Assembly.

The state Chairman of the Association of Local Govern-ment of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Joshua Omokanye, dis-closed the defection yesterday to journalists in Ilorin during a press conference.

Omokanye who is also the chairman of Oyun LGA, said their decision was not in conflict with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is supported by Section 109 (1) (g).

“It is our collective resolve to join the PDP as the worthy alternative platform to further our political careers and work for the advancement of the generality of our people. Since we are welcomed by the party, we have no doubt it wouldn’t be like the conglomeration of strange bedfellows that APC had been in the last four years,” he said
