Mother-in-law Pleads Guilty to Killing Two-year-old Girl in Niger

A mother-in-law, Aisha Ibrahim, has pleaded guilty to killing a two-year-old girl in Karaye Fulani camp in Rafi Local Government area of Niger state.
Ibrahim, 45, made the guilty plea Monday when she was arraigned before a Minna Chief Magistrate Nasir Muazu on a one-count charge of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code law.
The prosecution told the court that on 19th of July, this year, one Bello Ibrahim of Karaye Fulani camp reported that on the 18th of the same month, Ibrahim, mother-in-law to Bello, took away the two-year-old girl from their family home at the camp.
According to the prosecution, Ibrahim took the little girl to a nearby pool where she allegedly killed her.
The body of the deceased was later found floating in the pool of water, the prosecution further told the court.
It was alleged that Ibrahim committed the offence because of a disagreement she had with Bello Ibrahim.
When the charge was read to the accused, she pleaded guilty resulting in the Chief Magistrate Muazu directing that she should be remanded in prison custody because the court did not have jurisdiction to entertain the case.
He also directed the prosecution to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice.
Chief Magistrate Muazu adjourned the case to August 21, 2018 for further mention.
