The wife of the acting President, Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, has urged women in the country to be at the forefront of the war against drug abuse, hunger, rape and other vices that hinder the growth of children, adding that women should also champion the course against the female genital mutilation, child labour and girl-child-out-of school.
Osinbajo spoke yesterday at the Imo Women 2018 August meeting held at the Dan Anyiam ‘Stadium Owerri, the Imo State capital’.
The theme of the event is “Sharing Our Common Cultural Values”.
She stated that the theme of this year’s August Meeting was apt because culture has a way of affecting the lives of the people.
“Our society is derailing because we have abandoned our culture. So, this meeting today with the theme is a wake-up call. Women should brace-up and play the expected role especially in the area of fighting the vices that hamper or have the tendencies of hampering the development or growth of the child and by implication, our society.
“The theme of this year’s August Meeting is apt as every culture has a way of affecting the lives of the particular society. And when this culture is neglected, the society is derailed or suffers for it. So, all hands must be on deck to champion the fight against these vices that pose threat to our culture, the society, children, women and so on,” she stated.
Wife of the Imo State Governor, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha, in her address, urged women in the country to close ranks to enable them achieve collective goals, adding that women should avoid dangerous routes like laziness, gossiping insubordination, antagonism and rancour to achieve these goals since the success of one Igbo woman or any other woman is the collective success of all women.
According to her, with determination, God’s grace and unity of purpose, we closed routes that diminished our collective conscience and goals.
