You Lack Numerical Strength to Remove Saraki, PDP Senators Tell APC Caucus

Forty nine Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party have advised their colleagues in the All Progressive Congress to forget the possibility of removing Senate President Bukola Saraki when the National Assembly reconvenes on Wednesday.
The  49 senators in a formal vote of confidence letter sent to Saraki at the weekend in Abuja said APC senators cannot muster enough numerical strength to oust Saraki and the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
According to the PDP senators, the impeachment plan is dead on arrival “as the party does not have the required vote to remove Saraki and Ekweremadu”.
The PDP senators including former Senate President, Senator David Mark; Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujinmi; Dino Melaye and Barnabas Gemade, in the letter passed a  vote of confidence on
the leadership of Saraki and that of his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
This, according to the Senators, is sequel to last Tuesday’s failed attempt by law enforcement agencies to facilitate the removal of the two presiding officers of the Senate.
The PDP Senators reaffirmed their support for the leadership of the Senate, stating that they are against any illegal impeachment of the presiding officers.
Section 50 of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) stipulates that two third of senators can impeach a Senate President or Deputy Senate President which means a minimum of 73 Senators will be required to remove both Saraki and Ekweremadu.
Presently, officially there are 51 PDP Senators, APC 53 Senators, 1 APGA Senator , 2 ADC Senators and two vacant seats( Bauchi and Katsina) which are being filled this weekend through a by-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
