Another Drumbeat of War Among The Sarakis?
Much as the recent defection of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and his running battle with the Presidency are talked about what appears to be the major topic of discussion, particularly among the people of Kwara State, is the dramatic return of his sister, Gbemisola Saraki, to the political terrain in the state.
The beautiful lady is throwing her hat into the ring for the Kwara Central Senatorial District, the same constituency, where her brother is currently representing at the Senate.
This development, according to political watchers, could yet be another war that may further literally tear the family apart.
It will be recalled that a serious crisis erupted within the family in 2011 when Saraki supported the incumbent governor, Abdulfathai Ahmed, against his sister, who was then his late father’s preferred candidate in the state’s governorship election.
At the height of the family feud, Saraki was said to have disclosed that it was morally wrong for her blood sister to succeed him in office as governor.
Now, the woman, who had also represented the constituency in the past, is allegedly planning to take her own pound of flesh on her brother over his failure to support her ambition seven years ago.
Also, the thinking in some quarters is that her return to politics is to score a point, especially as his brother is reportedly scheming to run for president in 2019.
Gbemisola, who had in the past represented Kwara Central Senatorial District at both the House of Representatives and Senate, experienced a sharp decline in her political career when she lost to Ahmed.
Ever since, her political profile has waned, leaving her with just an appointment as the Board Chairman of the newly established Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
