18 Dead, 24 Hospitalised as Cholera Outbreak Hits Katsina

No fewer than 18 persons have died and 24 others currently hospitalised following suspected outbreak of cholera in Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The outbreak, which occurred on Saturday, caused panic among residents in the affected communities.

The villages affected by the deadly outbreak include Malole and Manye where eight persons tested positive and were receiving treatment.

The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Charanchi Local Government, Yusuf Abubakar Radda, who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina, however, said the council had procured medication to support the patients.

He called on the state government and other relevant authorities to come to the aid of the local government.

His said: “We have provided drugs to the victims. Those that are in the hospital are responding to treatment. Therefore, I have called on the state government to come to our rescue”.

The caretaker committee chairman further admonished residents to embrace personal hygiene in order to avert future occurrence of the incident.
