At least 242,546 persons have been registered in the continuous voter registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Sokoto State.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Sokoto State, Malam Sadiq Abubakar Musa, disclosed this during an interview with journalists in Sokoto yesterday.
He said this figure was before the application of business rule which eliminated those who registered more than once thereby bringing the figures slightly down.
He stated that the number of people who applied for re-issuance of permanent voter cards stood at 25, 105 while 6,475 applied for intra interstate transfers.
The resident electoral Commissioner explained that the Commission was working assiduously to produce permanent voter cards for those who were registered from January to August 2018.
He called on those who registered from April 2017 to December 2017 to go to the INEC local government offices to collect their cards.
“They are therefore, expected to visit our offices to obtain their permanent voter cards.
“Collection of permanent voter cards will continue at various INEC offices until a week to the 2019 general elections, “he said.
Musa urged registered voters to check for their names and bring to the notice of INEC any anomaly for prompt correction. He therefore commended the people of the state for actively participating in the exercise.
“The continuous voter registration exercise has been peaceful and enjoyed cooperation from the people and various stakeholders as security agencies provided adequate security during the exercise, “he added.
