Kogi West APC Threatens Mass Defection over Imposition of Candidates
Yekini Jimoh in Lokoja
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State may witness an implosion if the planned imposition of candidates, particularly in the Western Senatorial district is anything to go by.
The hints of implosion and disaffection within the ranks of the party were made known at a press conference held in Lokoja yesterday, by the Concerned Okun Youths, who frowned at the planned imposition of Sen. Smart Adeyemi on the people of the western senatorial district.
The group particularly fingered Gov. Yahaya Bello and the State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, for reneging in their earlier promise to create a level-playing field for all aspirants.
The spokesman of the group, Omosona Olakunle, while addressing the press, said the morale of the APC members has been dampened.
The group described the planned imposition as one that has rendered the attempt at reconciliation of members of the APC a nullity, thus allowing the opposition to take advantage of the situation.
The group called on the National Secretariat of the APC to wade into the current crisis caused by the attempt to impose candidates on the party, warning that if something urgent is not done, the APC in Kogi State is on the verge of disintegration.
Olalekun said if the issue of imposition is not checked, it means that the people of Yagba Federal Constituency would have held on to the Senate seat of the Federal Constituency for 16 years by 2019.
