Release Sheikh Zakzaky, Wife, IMN Tells FG
By Francis Sardauna in Katsina
Supporters of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Katsina State yesterday urged the federal government to obey the court order and release their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky; his wife and other members of the movement currently in detention.
This is even as the movement called on international community to prevail federal government to obey courts orders on the unconditional release of its leader.
At a press conference to mark the 1,000 days of Zakzaky’s detention, the Chairman, Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee, Sheikh AbdulRahaman Yola, said despite the continued detention of their leader, they remained “unshakeable and unwavering” in their tenacity.
He said: “As we mark the thousand day of this travesty of justice, we demand and insist that the federal government and its agencies must release our leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, and his wife unconditionally and immediately.
“We urge the international community to persuade the government to obey the orders of court, and release our leader unconditionally.”
According to him, “The Kaduna State Government must discontinue its unjustified persecution of Sheikh Zakzaky, his wife and others facing spurious charges of culpable homicide at the Kaduna High Court on the wobbly ground.
“It must also take concrete steps to prosecute all those who carried out the heinous murder of over 1,000 of our members and the illegal and unconstitutional burial of 347.
“We also appeal to the international community to commit Nigeria to upholding religious rights and freedoms, failing which the Nigeria Government and its agents must be isolated and sanctioned.”
Yola, however, lauded the Movement counsel, Femi Falana, Human Rights Community, the international community and the media for their supports since the detention of Zakzaky.
