The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Imohimi Edgal, has assured the people of the state that the police is ready to provide watertight security during the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary election billed for Saturday, September 29 across the state.
He warned policemen in the state against partisanship during the election.
The CP further urged party faithfuls to be law-abiding and steer clear from any conduct that could jeopardise free, fair and peaceful conduct of the election and also called on aspirants to talk to their supporters to shun violence.
Edgal said: “Any person caught engaging in acts capable of constituting a breach of the public peace will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
To ensure adequate security across the state during the exercise, the CP said he would hold meetings with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and heads of departments to ensure that due diligence is followed during the primaries.
Although he encouraged his men and officers not to compromise the credible conduct of the exercise, he warned that severe punishment would be meted out to any policeman who meddled in the election.
Edgal, therefore, enjoined members of the public to promptly alert the police to any act that may threaten the credible and peaceful conduct of the exercise.
According to the CP, the command, as usual, will refrain from any partisan practice.
