Incumbent Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun Otega Emerhor yesterday night emerged winners of parallel elections conducted by the APC to elect candidates for Delta Central senatorial district in the 2019 elections.

While the primary election that led to the emergence of  Omo-Agege was held at Udu in Udu Local Government Area, that of Emerhor took place in Ughelli in Delta State.

For  Omo-Agege, the Returning Officer, Gen. Lawrence Onoja (rtd), said he polled a total of 2,360 out of the 2,414 votes cast, emerging as winner of the election against Chief O’tega Emerhor who scored zero with 54 as invalid votes.

“As the Returning Officer of the APC Senatorial primaries held at Udu, I hereby declare Senator Ovie Omo-Agege winner”, he declared.

He lauded the peaceful manner of the delegates which according to him was contrary to the impression being created that Warri and Delta State  were associated with violence during elections.

In the other primary held in Ughelli, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor emerged the winner beating Omo-Agege.

Emerhor, who is the leader of the APC in the state was declared winner of the primary by the Returning Officer of the exercise, Mr. Solomon Igbiaye, having polled 2,492 votes against the four votes counted for Senator Omo-Agege.

In his acceptance speech, Emerhor thanked the  delegates for electing him, noting that though a parallel primary held somewhere, he was not in doubt of the authenticity of the Ughelli primary as it was conducted by the duly inaugurated state executive council by the immediate past National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

“Unfortunately, another parallel primary is being held by illegal delegates outside this place. As you know, each executive council member that has voted here was duly inaugurated by the last National Working Committee and you the executives are in court to defend the mandate that was given to you through me”, he said.
