Gregory University Confers Doctorate Degrees on Ugochukwu, Ohuabunwa, Others

The award of doctorate degrees to the first Executive Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Onyema Ugochukwu and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa has been scheduled as one of the major highlights of the third convocation ceremony of the Gregory University Uturu, Abia State.

Others to be honoured with doctorate degrees by the university include veteran highlife musician and leader of the Oriental Brothers International Band, Chief Dansatch Opara, Olympic Gold Medalist Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, President-General of Peoples Club of Nigeria International, Prof. Inno Eke and Managing Director of Urban FM, Mr. Chike Madueke.

According to a press statement by the Acting Registrar of the university, Mr. Emmanuel Nebo, events lined up for the three-day ceremony commenced yesterday with a non-denominational thanksgiving church service and traditional Iri Ji (New Yam) festival.

The statement further added that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, who is also Visitor to the university, is expected to deliver the third convocation lecture today (Friday), on the topic “The Pathways to the Development of Africa.”

Other activities for the ceremony include plans for the presentation of Prof. Ola Rotimi’s“Our Husband Has Gone Mad Again” as well as the formal inauguration of the university’s West Africa Green Economic Development Institute (WAGEDI).

According to Nebo, the ceremony will climax with the award of degrees and prizes to a total of One Hundred Graduands on Saturday 27 October 2018.

The university management therefore solicits the attendance of the public, especially relations, friends and associates of the graduands to all the events, which have been scheduled to take place in the university auditorium.
