A’Ibom Hires Canadian Firm to Manage Ibom Hospital
Okon Bassey in Uyo
The Akwa Ibom State Government has contracted the running of the Ibom Specialist Hospital in Uyo, the state capital, to a new management consortia, Clinotech Turnkey and management Limited of Canada.
Clinotech Turnkey, a member of Clinotech group, was selected among nine world class and international groups or consortiums from United Arab Emirate (UAE), Germany, Canada and United States of America that indicated interest or applied to run the specialist hospital.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, who disclosed this yesterday during an interview with journalists in his office, said the state government decided to choose Clinotch Turnkey because of their general expertise in the management of health facility of that magnitude after appearing with others for series of interviews and interactions
Besides, he said the state government was looking for a firm that would equally transfer their technology to the specialist hospital in order to boost its local contents as well as provide various specialties.
The commissioner explained that the agreement for the management of the hospital signed in May with the renowned international health firm with a four months transitional period was actually handed over to them in August 2018.
He said the new management would provide services for various specialties of surgeries, including ectopic, cardiac, plastic, obstetric, conchology, neonatology and oncology as well as cancer treatment among others.
“We wanted the best, we had applications from nine consortia all over the world, we screened and visited their facilities, toured round and they also visited here.
“What we were looking for was expertise to be able to manage this kind of facility; we wanted to be able to transfer the technology because you wouldn’t be here forever, a local content should be able to manage after you.
“We visited their facilities because we needed to be sure that you are managing something similar, so that our medical doctors from here can have an attachment in your hospital abroad.
“We needed to be sure you can provide the various specialties for surgery-plastic surgery, ontology, intensive care unit, cardiac surgery among others. We have provided all the facilities for emergencies for helicopter to land,” Ukpong stressed.
The commissioner said the new management has the financial leverage to put into the hospital, disclosing further that various teams of the Clinotech Trunkey are still arriving in the state to commence work in the hospital.
