An Adamawa Peoples Democratic Party’s chieftain, Chief Emmanuel Pentecost Agiso, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
His younger, Mr Tyros Agiso, confirmed his abduction to THISDAY on Monday in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
He said the PDP cheiftain was abducted in the presence of his wife at about 1am on Monday at his Girei residence in Girei local government area, few kilometers from the state capital.
He said the abductors were well armed but did not hurt anybody, as they only carted away the the wife’s mobile telephones and left Agiso’s mobile telephones behind.
Agiso said he believed that the abductors left his brother’s mobile telephones behind to use as a medium to demand for ransom, adding that they are still waiting for the abductors to call.
He further explained that no one knows the whereabouts of the PDP chieftain.
He said the family had reported the incident to Girei police station for further actions.
Chief Pentecost Emmanuel Agiso, retired as a director from the state Ministry of Finance and is an ardent loyalist of the governorship candidate of the PDP, RT. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, and also has a great political influence in Girei.
It is believed that his abduction was politically motivated because of the influences he wields in the area, while another source said it may be that his abductors thought he had gathered money for the campaign tour of his principal across the 21 LGAs of the state.
At the time of sending this report, several calls made to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Othman Abubakar , were not answered.
