Sports Lawyer, Adedotun Olusanya, lauded for Outstanding Contributions to Para—Athletics

Adedotun Olusanya, a distinguished international sports lawyer, has been celebrated by the Ekiti State Para-Athletics Association for his remarkable contributions to the development and welfare of athletes with special abilities. Announced as the winner at the Conference Room of Oluyemi Kayode Stadium at Ado-Ekiti on 16 October, 2019.

The prestigious award recognizes individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the sports industry, including law, broadcasting, banking, insurance, and financial services. Olusanya’s nomination was endorsed by the athletes themselves, a testament to his tireless advocacy and dedication to their cause.

Despite being nominated alongside prominent CEOs and industry leaders, Olusanya emerged as the overwhelming winner, a feat he attributes to his unwavering commitment to sports law and governance advocacy since 2014.

The Ekiti State Para Athletics Association known for its promotion of interests and welfare of special athletes across Ekiti State, praised Olusanya’s selfless efforts in educating athletes about their welfare rights under Nigerian and international law, as well as his expertise in effective sports governance structures. His seminars especially the four-year series “Ability in Disability: Legal Rights and Welfare of Special Athletes” have empowered special athletes, enhancing their performance and well-being.

Coach Ojo, Head Coach of the Para Athletics Team in Ekiti, lauded Olusanya’s passion for sports governance, stating, “He is a true champion of the sporting community, using his knowledge to make a positive impact on the lives of athletes.”

Olusanya’s advocacy focuses on the professionalization of para-sports, emphasizing effective administration, better coaching, and medical support. He urges the government to embrace its regulatory role, allowing private individuals and corporate bodies to enhance the sport and improve athletes’ living standards.
