Oshoala Returns from Injury in Barca Femeni Draw at PSG
Super Falcon’s Captain, Asisat Oshoala, has given Barcelona Femeni a very huge attacking boost after she returned to competitive action in a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint Germain yesterday after almost one month out injured.
The Nigeria international had last featured for the Catalans in their 2-1 Champions League quarter-final defeat at Machester City on March 31, when she appeared to aggravate the injury in her right foot.
To remedy the situation, the 26-year-old went through an operation on her right foot on April 6, missing her side’s victories against Levante, Deportivo La Coruna and Tenerife during her recovery.
Having scored four Champions League goals this term, the Nigeria captain made the trip to Paris for the semi-final showdown with PSG and was named on the bench after she passed a late fitness test.
Lluis Cortes’ side came to Paris aiming to avoid a third elimination by PSG and Jenni Hermoso gave them the crucial lead and vital away goal thanks to Aitana Bonmati’s assist in the 13th minute.
However, the hosts found a way back into the contest when Marie-Antoinette Katoto assisted Alana Cook to level in the 21st minute.
After the break, both teams created several chances in the second half but could not find a breakthrough as they ended up settling for a stalemate in the first leg at Stade Municipal Georges Lefevre.
Oshoala played the final 26 minutes of the encounter on her quick return from injury after she replaced teammate and scorer Hermoso.
Despite the draw, the Catalans hold a slim first-leg advantage, heading into the second leg with an away goal in the bag.
With her return, Oshoala will hope to have attained full fitness for the crucial semi-final reserve fixture on May 5 but would need to add to her 15 league goals tally against Madrid on April 28.
