Obasanjo Charges Rotarians on Service to Society

The former President Olusegun Obasanjo has charged Rotarians to continue to grow membership, stating that it is important to find the right people who have the passion to carry on the Rotary International services to humanity and support the Rotary Foundation.

He disclosed this recently at the Rotary International – 39th District 9110 Conference, Tagged: ‘Opportunities DisCon 2021.’

A statement by the Rotary International said the 39 District conference and award programmes was extremely a successful event, due to a number of things.

The statement further explained that Rotarian Bola Oyebade, Past President Abiodun Oshinibosi, Chairman, District Conference Committee 2021 and his team were still able to organise a wonderful 2021 District Conference at Abeoukuta, the Ogun State capital from May, 27-30 with the theme: ‘Opportunities Discon 2021.’

The statement hinted that at the annual meeting, all the Rotarians/Participants gave multiple brilliant performances with notable speaker in attendance which include Rotarian Goodie Minabo Ibru, PDG Tunji Funsho, Richard Mofe Dajo, Dayo Olomu, Ayo Animashaun and the Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Ogun State, Mrs. Kikelolo Alonge.

The statement said: “One of the purpose of the district conference is to provide opportunities for networking, inspirational addresses, and discussions of Rotary-related matters. The conferences also gives Rotarians and clubs a vision of Rotary beyond the club level and provide a memorable fellowship experience.”

According to the statement: “It was gathered that 40 Rotarians from different club within the district was awarded DisCon Commander (Commander of The Order of Discn (COD) 2021. A Special honor titled ‘Commander Of The Order Of Discon’ Award, Some of them were Rotarians also previously honoured and awarded Icon of the Year by Efedi Jelily, Chairman, on Tree Planting Project in conjunction with the ministries of Environment (Lagos and Ogun State).

“Some the Rotarians honoured with the award of Commander of the Order of Discon and previously awarded Icon of the year include AG Okechukwu Uche-Ukah, Rotn. Funke Salau – the first Major Donor in the Rotary club of Ota, Rotarian Omotunde Olaleye, a member of the Rotary Club of VGC, he is the current procurement Manager of Mobil Nigeria Unlimited, Rotarian. Allan Emezue a member of the Rotary Club of Lagos West, the Managing Director of TIES Limited, Rotarian Motunrayo Adeleye-Oladapo, the Directors and owners of Figarowear Fashion House, (Rotarian Ehizonomen G. Ehis and Rotarian Ojobo O Edward), Figarowear Fashion House – owners of Figarowear Foundation known for their brand name and humanitarian aid commitment to support vulnerable people within the community. Rotarian Nkeiruka Akarutu-Balogun, a philanthropist also known for her humanitarian service within and outside her community, Rotarian Chester Apasi, Rotarian Olusegun Oludayo and many other notable Rotarian – They are all members of Paul Harris Club of the Rotary International.

“Highlight of the event includes – Exchange of banners between District Governor Bola Oyebade and Incoming District Governor Remi Bello, Unveiling of District Governor Nominee Omotunde Lawson and Presentation of District governor Nominee Designate Ifeyinwa Ejezie, a member of Rotary Club of Ikoyi Metropolitan.”
