Bandits Attack Niger Villages, Kill Two

Bandits Friday night raided Kuchi, Kurubbako and Guni villages in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State killing two villagers.
However, it was gathered that men of the local vigilante in the villages were able to repel the attacks by the bandits during which they killed five of the bandits, while many others escaped with gunshot and machete injuries.
The bandits, who came in large numbers rode on motorcycles and carried AK 47 rifles.
“They shot sporadically as they entered the villages to scare away the villagers after which they embarked on rustling of cattle and looting of the homes of the villagers.
“The youths recovered from the initial shock and countered the bandits resulting in the killing of five of the bandits,” THISDAY was told.
It was gathered that the bandits took away the corpses of their colleagues that were killed in the encounter.
THISDAY also learnt that the cattle earlier rustled were recovered and returned to the owner.
The Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Inga, when contacted, confirmed the story but said the agency was yet to get the full details of the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, could not be reached for confirmation of the attacks.
