Olufi of Gbongan Appeals for Better Security

In order to ensure continuous safety of lives and property in the country, the Olufi of Gbongan, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Adetoyese Oyeniyi, Odugbemi 1, has appealed to both state and federal governments not to relent their effort to curb the menace in the society. He stressed that for plausible development and peace to reign in any community, the security architecture must be strong and reliable.

Speaking recently at the formal inauguration of members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Old Students Association of Gbongan Community High School, Gbongan, Osun State, the revered monarch advised all and sundry to join hands together to build a virile nation that is devoid of violence.

Oba Oyeniyi, therefore, commended the efforts of the Old Students Association for employment of 10 teaching staff for the school to augment the government’s effort, renovation of several classrooms, award of scholarships to 15 indigent students among others, despite the hard economic situation of the country, assuring them of huge reward from God.

“God is not mocked. Whatever a man soweth, he will reap. Don’t say men do not recognise you. Once heaven does, it is finished. You have played a philanthropic role in this community. Generation unborn will remember your goodwill. I want to thank you. The family of Oloba that gave us the land to build this school has been so magnanimous. I also commend and congratulate the pioneer principal, Overseer J.O. Ojeleye. That Ojeleye is alive today to witness this ceremony is a miracle,” he said.
Pa Ojeleye, who was physically present at the ceremony prayed for all the students, saying “you will prosper in all your endeavours.”

In an oath of office administered by one of the leading lights in the law profession in the country, Barrister Kayode Oyedeji, (member of 83 set of the school), Board of Trustees members declared publicly their readiness to be faithful, bearing true allegiance to Gbongan Community High School Old Students Association. They promised to discharge their duties in accordance with the constitution of the association.

The BoT members include the chairman, Mr. Aderemi Louis Oyedele, a member of prestigious Chartered Ship Broker, private investigator, media management and shipping consultant; the secretary, Dr. Femi Awodiran, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Professor Clement Adebooye and Dr. Kola Oke, lecturers at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Others are Isiaka Aderemi, a successful businessman in Abeokuta, Dayo Adeleke, accountant, Netherland Business School Ikeja and Major Pastor Femi Olojede, CEO, G4 Automobile Nigeria Enterprises.

The coordinator of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Dr. Lateef Adisa, chairman of Interim Management Committee (IMC) handed over the account and other relevant documents to the chairman of BoT, Mr. Oyedele.
In his acceptance speech, Oyedele, who was a former lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye and former editorial board member of Daily Times, said the inaugurated members would not disappoint the association.

Oyedele said: “We are committed to excellence. The oath has been administered. We implore all members to join hands together with us to build our Alma matter. You have given us the mandate and we will not disappoint you. Every student that has an admission number in the school has record. Gbongan community High School is our common denominator.”
Chief Rufus Olawuni, representative of the Oloba family also appreciated the gesture of the Old Students, saying with what the association has done, it has projected the school as the head of other secondary schools in Gbongan and its environment.

“In 1963, when I was in modern school, leaders of thought in Gbonganland approached my father, Chief Amos Alao Olawuni for a portion of land to build this school and he gladly released several hectares to that effect. Who knows that the seed planted that day will bring forth such fruits today. You have done well, Olawumi said.”
The current school principal, Mrs. Olutoyin Iyabo Farotimi said the activities of the association had liberated the school.
