We are Stranded, Residents Cry to Ogun Governor

Residents of Akute, Olambe, Agbado, and Ijoko in the Ifo Local Government area of Ogun State have appealed to the state governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun to come to their aid given the total collapse of the road linking these and other communities.

The coming of the rainy season, and the attendant impacts on the abandoned road project in the area, have forced many vehicle owners to resort to motorbikes as a means of transportation as well as raising security concerns for a couple of weeks now.

A random tour of the area showed that some long stretches of the road had been taken over by flood as water and weeds now occupy the road, making it difficult for small car owners to pass the area.
For instance, the road from Olambe to the major market in the area, Jolasco market has been separated into two by water and weeds. Residents said the collapse of the road also inhibit them from approaching the Ajuwon Police station in times of distress.

Also, the abandoned bridge at the Giwa area has been taken over by flood and sand, forcing vehicle owners to turn back and resort to motorcycles.

When contacted, the state Governor told THISDAY that there was no way he would fix all the state’s roads within two years because of paucity of funds.

However, the chairman of one of the resident associations, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, appealed to Governor Abiodun to visit the area and rescue them and not to wait till it’s time for the campaign for his second term in office.
