Edo Police Arrest 22 Year-old Suspected Kidnap, Armed

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnap and armed robbery kingpin, Aliu Yusuf. It said Yusuf had been the one terrorising innocent citizens along the Benin/Auchi Road.

The Command through its spokesperson, SP Kontongs Bello yesterday said that the 22 year-old was arrested on Thursday by the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the Command.

The statement signed by Bello and made available to newsmen yesterday read in part: “On the 01/07/2021 at about 16:30, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of Edo State Police Command arrested a kidnap Kingpin one Yusuf Aliu ‘M’ 22 years who has been terrorising Benin-Auchi Road and its environs and has been on the command wanted list for armed robbery and kidnapping.

“The suspect is the leader of a gang of four kidnappers that abducted one Lucky Ojezele at Idumwengie Community along Benin-Auchi Road on 5/01/2021 and fled.

“The Operatives of Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit of the Command through hi-tech tracking/intelligence arrested him at old Road in Aduwawa, Benin City. One of his gang members, Philemon Timothy had earlier been arrested by the operatives and has since been charged to court.

“On interrogation Aliu Yusuf confessed to the crime of kidnapping and armed robbery, while efforts are in top gear to arrest the remaining two suspects.

“The State Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu enjoin all indigenes of Edo State to go about their lawful businesses as the command is not relenting in its effort of protecting lives and property,” the statement added.
