Methodist Church Nigeria, MCN, has severed its relationship with the British Conference.

The Prelate, MCN, His Eminence, .Dr Samuel Chukwuemeka Kalu Uche gave reasons for the severance recently in Lagos.

“There’s a raging controversy now and the peoples morale are dampened over the division of the British conference, majority of them, and not all to adopt or legalize same sex marriage,” he said.

Uche stated that MCN became autonomous since1962, and any decision given by the British is not binding on the Nigerian Methodists

He stated that as a result, Methodist Church Nigeria cut ties with the British counterpart over approval of gay marriage.

“We as Methodist Church Nigeria, condemn in totality anything gay, it unafrican and even against the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

“We believe in the sound doctrines as promulgated by John Wesley, which is scriptural holiness, and evangelical faith. On this we believe,” he said.

The Prelate stated that MCN, believes in holiness and as stated by God that the Man and the Woman shall be one. “God made them man and woman, and not man and man to marry.

“We adopt in totality what the Bible states and this can not be rewritten, as well as the historical antecedence of Methodist Church Movement by John and Charles Wesley, also a member of the movement, George Whitfield. On this movement we stand and this is irrevocable.”

Uche encouraged members to understand the stand of the church and continue in their worship.” If anybody is aiding and abating, or contemplating, to practice same sex in MCN, such person will be excommunicated.”

The Director, Media and Public Relations, MCN, Rev. Oladapo Daramola, stated that the Church has disapprove the decision of the British Church in favour of same-sex marriage.

“The Church has therefore passed a vote of no confidence on its British counterpart, over their acceptance of this practice,” he said.
