Xolane Ndhlovu: The Truth About My Nigerian Roots

DafriBank chairman, Africa’s mega investor and leading philanthropist, Xolane Ndhlovu has offered an explanation on why he is often referred to as a South African/Nigerian billionaire entrepreneur.

“I was born to a Nigerian father and a South African mother,” he affirmed.

Born in Burgersfort, a town in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa, he has risen above his poor background to build DafriGroup, a conglomerate that is a pagoda of success.

Ndhlovu, who once earned a living as a disk jockey in clubs and on radio, then famously known as Master Ziggy, first made his fortune investing in tech startups. But he hit the gravy train by being one of the early investors in the crypto blockchain, which paid off and made him a billionaire.

Presently, he is the chairman of the DafriGroup PLC, worth R1.7 million. Even as he grows, he stays connected to his Nigerian roots as shown by the philanthropy of DafriBank Nigeria, a subsidiary of the DafriGroup PLC, which in 2020, announced a N100 million educational support grant to assist underprivileged Nigerian children to attain quality education.

According to him: “There are a lot of people who need help in our world and there are those out there doing their very best to give it to them. Every time I see someone working hard to create change or make life better for people I get inspired.”

He has been in the news in the past few months as a result of the growing anticipation of the eventual launch of DafriBank Digital service which according to him is “going live this July.”

The vision for DafriBank, Ndhlovu insisted, is to see it grow into “a full-fledged commercial bank that would spearhead the innovation and development in the financial sector, and to remarkably improve the reach and convenience of the banking sector.”
