Benitez Salutes Iwobi

Despite having only played three games so far this season, Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi seems to have won the heart of his new manager, Rafael Benitez with his recent performance.

The Everton gaffer has heaped praise on Iwobi after the Nigerian put up an outstanding performance to help Everton advance to the third round of the EFL Cup following a 2-1 win against Huddersfield.
Iwobi scored the opener in the 14th minute, and even after Everton were reduced to 10 men, he still put up a good show in midfield to help Everton beat the Championship side.

Speaking after the match, Benitez praised Iwobi’s for putting in a brilliant shift despite picking up an injury in the encounter.

“I like to see Tom Davies work so hard with a little problem in his quadriceps, I like to see Alex Iwobi limping but still trying to help the team, and I like the second goal and the way we finished,” Benitez said on Everton’s website.

Under the tutelage of his new Spanish boss this season, Iwobi’s gameplay has improved, and it is not a surprise as Benitez is known for his ability to work his way into his players’ heads and make them play better.

Everton will know their third-round opponents in the draws that will hold today.

Meanwhile, their next fixture in the Premier League is at the Amex Stadium against Brighton.
Everton secured a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup game, with Alex Iwobi finding the net at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Premier League side came into the encounter on the back of a 2-2 draw against Leeds United, while the EFL Championship side recorded an impressive 2-1 result at Sheffield United.

After a frenzied opening, it was Benitez’s men who took the lead through Iwobi in the 26th minute.
The former Arsenal man nudged in a smart finish past goalkeeper Lee Nicholls after being released by Tom Davies.

Iwobi was in action from start to finish and would be hoping to take this new found form to the Falmer Stadium when Everton take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
