Community Members, Family of a Missing IPOB Agitator Cries Out

The community people of Akpo town and the family of a member of agitators for the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have staged a protest to authority in the state over the sudden disappearance of their son Ezeribe Chinonso Gilbert of Akpo town in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A representative of the family who simply identified himself as Emmanuel and Spoke on the condition of anonymity, for fear of being traced by the police, stated that Gilbert had been on the run ever since the unknown gunmen attacked and killed his parent, identified as Ezeribe Okey

According to him, Gilbert, who got wind of the possibility of his elimination became apprehensive and has been on the run for his life since July when he was warned never to return back to the police station to report or asked about the investigation of those killed his dad in Akpo town of Aguata LGA, Anambra State.

“During his visit to police station, he was tortured and threatened that his life was no longer safe. We tried to intervene then but our efforts didn’t yield any positive outcome. We have people in this community with such experience who are not alive today. That is why we are worried about Gilbert whereabouts.”

Emmanuel further stated that, the family and the community is in dark concerning the fate of Gilbert as they are not sure whether he has been apprehended or killed like his father by the unknown soldiers or not.

He stressed that all efforts at getting in touch with him has proved abortive. He reiterated that the entire family is lamenting over Gilbert’s whereabout stating that the situation is unbearable especially for his mother who has maintained a crying mood ever since his son’s disappearance became obvious.

It’s no longer news that in recent times the Nigerian Police and Army have been vigorously on the trail to apprehend members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a Pro-Biafra Separatist Movement. Many of these members have been killed while others are on the run for their lives.

Ezeribe Chinonso Gilbert is one of the numerous agitators of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) whose life is on the line for actively participating in the Pro-Biafra Separatist Movement. The government frowned at these agitators as well as the Eastern Security Network, the Paramilitary organization of IPOB; as such many of them have lost their freedom of movement as they are on the watch list for elimination.

We do hope that the international community will interfere by upholding the right of Nigerians to carry out protests and agitations without intimidation and killings by the Nigerian Police and army as witnessed in the EndSars Protest and the ongoing IPOB agitation. It is our earnest desire that peace be restored in the Eastern part of Nigeria and the incessant killings be nipped in the bud, Emmanuel affirmed.
