Just In: District Head Kidnapped in Niger

The District Head of Wawa in the Borgu emirate of Niger state Alhaji Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu has been kidnapped.
The District Head popularly called the Dodo of Wawa was abducted by unknown gunmen from his palace on Saturday night.
It was gathered that the heavily armed gunmen stormed the district Head palace at about 10pm and started shooting sporadically causing panic within the palace and the entire community.
In the confusion that followed, the traditional ruler was abducted and whisked to unknown destination.
A source said the gunmen took Alhaji Aliyu through the Kainji National Park, towards Benin Republic.
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer Niger State Police Command DSP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident.
Abiodun said the police special tactical team had been sent on the trail of the kidnappers, assuring that they will be apprehended shortly.
