A non-governmental organisation, The Grace Foundation, has announced its plans to empower thousands of Nigerians today, October 1, 2021, through the eighth edition of its yearly outreach programme Hands Up for Nigeria.

The event, which commemorates Nigeria’s Independence Day will be held at First Bank Sports Field, Satellite Town, Lagos.

The day’s event will kick off with a conference that will have various speakers highlight issues around education, healthcare, lifestyle and capacity building.

The hour-long conference will be followed by free medical check-ups, access to free clothing, and dissemination of food items. The event will also look into supporting individuals to secure grants, gain access to vocational training and scholarships.

Speaking at a meeting recently, the President, The Grace Foundation, Philip Okuabor, explained how the in-house team pooled resources to alleviate hunger experienced by the less privileged during the lockdown period.

“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn’t control the situation, so what we did was a bit different. Our in-house team of professionals across various fields collaborated to distribute food and other basic items to those who needed them the most. Registering with the CAC, I believe, will make more people know about us and what we do,” Okuabor said.

In marking Independence Day, the crowd will also be treated to light entertainment.

Unlike the past editions, Hands Up for Nigeria will leverage an even larger space to accommodate about 3,000 persons, up from previously recorded 2,000.

The move to the spacious venue was strategic to help them adequately observe COVID-19 health guidelines. It however still adopts the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that focus on eradicating poverty, hunger, promote good health and wellbeing, and quality education.

Founded by House of Grace Church, the foundation actively seeks the support of well-meaning individuals and organisations towards achieving and surpassing set goals.
