Rotary Club Gives Succour to Kobi Community

As part of her “Educate a Child, Grow a Nation” initiative, the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond recently held an outreach at Kobi community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

At the exercise, which took place at Kobi LEA makaranta, items such as school bags, textbooks and school uniforms were distributed. Other items such as t-shirts for physical education and cartons of chalk were also donated to the school. Refreshments were also made available for 200 pupils.

In addition, the club also gave out a cash donation to the tune of N157, 500 to sort the school fees of 35 pupils from the community.

The leader of the Outreach Augustine Goodluck said they adopted this initiative which is in its fifth year because education is one of Rotary Club’s areas of focus

“Early child education is very important for all children and is one of the areas of focus in rotary. Educating the young ones brings development.

“This is why we chose to develop Kobi by getting their children educated for free. We promised to carry on every year and we have conducted the same project annually for five years.”

The President disclosed that choosing Kobi LEA makaranta wasn’t an easy task but after consultations with the Chief of Kobi and the Head Teacher, the chartered members of RCAAD decided to help the community to develop.

Kobi LEA Makaranta is the only public school in Kobi, our adopted community. Members of the community are mostly low income earners who cannot afford access to basic education for their children.

The Head Teacher, Mr. Lazarus Turaki, thanked the group for always putting smiles on the faces of the people in the community.

He noted that the initiative has been life changing for the pupils, their guardians and the community as a whole.

She revealed that the group is involved in other outreaches; Widows and Girl child Empowerment, 3 Days Community health check, Peace and Conflict Resolution football match/Community feeding and renovation of school buildings and hospital wards.

One of the RCAAD members, Costa Madi, stressed that the purpose of the outreach stems from a sense of obligation and the need to improve the lives of others.

“Acting on these powerful feelings of responsibility is a great way to reinforce our own personal values and feel like we’re living in a way that is true to our own ethical beliefs.

“For the Rotary Club of Abuja Asokoro Diamond the experience was a good one. We can never be tired of helping our fellow human beings”, he noted.
