PSG Exit Not on Ramos’ Mind, Set to Return to Training

Sergio Ramos has no intention to leave Paris Saint-Germain according to his brother, who is also the defender’s agent.

Ramos has endured a nightmare few months since arriving at Parc des Princes on a free transfer in the summer, following the expiration of his Real Madrid contract.

The injury-hit veteran only played a handful of games during the second half of last season and his fitness problems have continued this campaign. Ramos is yet to make an appearance for his new club, and suffered a fresh setback recently to further delay his debut.

Recent reports had even suggested that PSG were considering cutting their losses on the player, as he signed a lucrative two-year deal at the beginning of the season. However, this notion has been strongly rebuffed by Ramos’ brother and agent in an interview with El Mundo.

“Sergio Ramos is not planning to retire or break his contract. There is no doubt about Sergio. It’s a physical problem, he will play when he can,” Rene Ramos said.

The comments come after PSG gave a promising update on his brother’s recovery. He is set to return to training this week and all being well, he would be in line for a long-awaited debut against Nantes on Saturday 20 November – after the international break.

Domestically, PSG have fared well without Ramos. They currently top Ligue 1 by 10 points with 11 wins from their first 13 matches. Things are going less well in the Champions League, though.

They are currently second in Group A, having fallen to disappointing draws against RB Leipzig and Club Brugge. Question marks remain over Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe defensively too.

Although they top the table, three sides – Nice, Marseille and Rennes – all have better defensive records than the Parisiens despite modest wage budgets in comparison.
