Ahead of the last Group C game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers with the Super Eagles, a 40-man Blue Sharks of Cape Verde arrived Lagos yesterday via a chartered flight. They came in brimming with optimism to upset Nigeria.

Cape Verde’s Inforpress Agency, quoted national team Head Coach, Bubista, as saying the clash would be a tough encounter but hope to come out with victory.

“We already know it is going to be a difficult game, more so against a team like Nigeria. It is important that we stay focused all through the 90 minutes. We are going to fight with the desire to win,” observed the Blue Sharks coach.

He said Cape Verde were unfortunate to lose their home game against Nigeria in Mindelo.

“We were unfortunate to lose all points in the first match months ago and it is time for my players to see how they amend and get the points. A draw won’t take my team anywhere except the maximum points,” stressed Bubista.

He insisted that if Central African Republic can come to Lagos to pick all three points with that win over Super Eagles, they too can emulate CAR and earn all three points.

“The last home match Nigeria played against the Central African Republic will help us psychologically to get results in Lagos and at the same venue,” he enthused to the local media before arriving Lagos yesterday.

Going into the final match tomorrow, Eagles need just a draw result to progress while the visitors need outright win to upstage Nigeria to grab the group’s sole ticket to the final playoffs.

Nigeria won the away leg 2-1 via Victor Osimhen’s close range to equalise and the own goal dip into extra time pushed Super Eagles further at the summit of the table.
