Industry friends and colleagues, journalists, and music enthusiasts recently joined disc jockeys, Dr. Caise and DJ Lambo at a private listening party for ‘Venus and Mars’, their new Extended Play (EP) which is due for release this month of December. Acquaintances of this unusual duo were fascinated from the get-go of this galaxy-themed EP listening with very eclectic sounds and totally pleasing.

The setting at the Live Lounge venue in Victoria Island was captivating and pumped with excitement as Caise and Lambo dish out sounds from their Beanie Macaulay assisted project. Together, they unveiled the first track ‘Rigel’, a fusion of groovy South-African Amapiano sound. The hip loving audience were also treated to other tracks of the EP including ‘Canopus’, ‘Alioth’, ‘Algol’, and ‘Sirius’.

The 5-track ‘Venus and Mars’ EP explores the journey of two great DJs, with features from seasoned artistes like Ice Prince, Praiz and Brown Joel, where they both capture special moments in time. With over a decade of experience in African music and sound between them together, “this great piece of work, took a while in making”, Lambo noted, adding that “It is definitely a good one.”

Why stay this long to come up with their first body of work? “Good thing takes time”, Lambo said, laughing. “We’ve been on this for a really long time, going back and forth deciding what tracks are going to make it, what tracks aren’t going to make it… Yeah it’s been almost a year in the making but we just had to get it right… I will say what is unique about it is the fact that we were able to fuse different elements from different genres of music.”

Venus and Mars blend different sounds to give it that unique feel. “It’s like a combination of house music, afro-house, Amapiano, afrobeats and believe me or not, highlife. And even with some of the features on the record, a bit of hip-hop you know. It’s such an amazing literally out of this world fusion of like the different genres and I think that’s what makes it unique”, Lambo explained.

For Caise, the EP is definitely more than just music. He highlights the theme, saying “Venus represents male (myself) and Mars represents female (Lambo)”.

The hood wearing Dr. Caise who took a spell away from music to earn his PhD, briefly narrates the journey of their debut collaborative effort following years of spinning the wheels with songs of their art: “So me and Lambo we’ve had a very long history and so we decided to come together to try and figure out some kind of collaboration we could do. We then started in SA we were just vibing, DJying together it then evolved into something.

“Like ‘listen the impact of the SA sound was so powerful the way they were reacting to music so listen we have to try and bring this influence to Nigeria’ and then it started off by one track it led to two tracks and then we had a very powerful boots camp of three days of non-stop creative process you know, just getting instrumentalists together getting songwriters, producers and we were just brainstorming for three days and we came up with a real powerful body of work.”
