Algeria Beat Tunisia to Lift Inaugural FIFA Arab Cup

African champions Algeria last night sent a strong signal to teams heading to Cameroon for next year’s AFCON that they are not going to willingly surrender the title they won at the last edition in Egypt with a commanding 2-0 victory over Tunisia to lift the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup.

The game dragged into added time before they were able to subdue the hard fighting Tunisians.

Goals from Amir Sayoud Yacine Brahimi saw Algeria add the FIFA Arab Cup to the AFCON title they won in 2019.

After 90 minutes of football ended goalless, the deadlock was broken in the 99th minute as Sayoud curled home a fantastic effort past rooted Tunisia goalkeeper Mouez Hassen.

Then, right at the death and with Tunisia keeper Hassen desperately contesting a corner in the Algerian area, Brahimi raced on to a clearance, ran all the way to the Carthage Eagles’ goal, and placed the ball into an empty net.

Earlier, hosts of the tournament, Qatar edged Egypt 5-4 in shootout to win the Third-placed match.
