The Niger State Government has commended the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for its contributions to the development of education, especially the establishment of the End Well Model Science School (EWMSS) in Minna.

The state government pointed out during the weekend at the inauguration of the e-library facility of the EWMSS that the state chapter of the NUT has been in the forefront of the campaign against the COVID-19 pandemic disease.

The State Commissioner for Education, Ms. Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, who spoke on behalf of the state government at the inauguration said that the EWMSS has become an example of what private schools should be.

Salihu said: “I wish to categorically salute the efforts of the NUT and the management of EWMSS for your vision and commitment to establish academic excellence for quality education delivery in this school.

“I also wish to state that this significant feat is unequalled and highly commendable,” adding that the NUT in this state has distinguished itself in academic investment in the life of their students.”

The commissioner added that “it is also gratifying to say that the establishment of this educational institution and the e-library is clear evidence that the NUT in our dear state has proven to be a pacesetter in educational empowerment of our young ones.”

She said that to the best of her knowledge the Niger State NUT is the only branch in the country “that is running a successful and standard educational institution” before adding that the union is also not left behind in creating and sustaining many welfare packages and support for its members.

She solicited for more cooperation from the union and assured them that government would continue to promote policies and programmes that would improve the living and working conditions of teachers.

Speaker of the State House of assembly, Hoourable Abdulahi Bawa Wuse, in his address promised that the assembly would continue to promulgate laws that would lead to the improvement in the standard of education in the state.

Former Minister of Sports, Mr. Sani Ndanusa, also commended the NUT for its educational development programme, pointing out that he would always partner with the union for greater results.
