1500 People Benefits from Olusegun Idowu Initiative Food Relief

No fewer than 1500 persons benefited from the 15th Olusegun Idowu Initiative Food Relief recently organised by notable philanthropist and grassroots politician, Hon Olusegun Idowu, at Ikoyi Obalende LCDA, area of Lagos State.

The initiative according to Idowu, was imperative in alleviating poverty from the community, and putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.

The event tagged, ‘Olusegun Cares’, which is in its 15th year, has seen larger number of residents of Ikoyi-Obalende, Local Council Development Area, including physically challenged, widows, elderly, and vulnerable benefit from several life changing opportunities.

They equally benefits from over 1500 Bags of Rice, 1000 Bags of Garri and 500 chickens, which are distributed as relief food for the yuletide season.

Speaking with pressmen, Idowu said the Initiative started 15 years ago to give to those who are in need, irrespective of their religion, tribes, or political affiliation.

“This initiative emanated from an elderly person who reached out to me and asked for money to buy Christmas chicken. I felt that there are so many other people who will want to have such and couldn’t have the means and don’t have the access to me.

“I also commend the effort of Hon. Olawale Edu who is the right man of our leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who is contesting for the president in 2023. I want to thank them for their support and the entire people of the Ikoyi-Obalenda community for their community en-mass to grace the occasion.”

Commenting, a party leader, Hon Wale Edu, said the programme was highly commendable in a time of festivity when people’s pockets are quite short.

“We have a member of the party, a member of a community coming out and providing directly to their pocket given them foodstuff and ingredients for cooking and what they will consume with their families during this festive period free of charge that is a direct assault on poverty and increases their comfort to reduce their poverty.

“At this time of the pandemic, when things go short when people are in needy give directly to their basic needs that is what Hon Olusegun Idown is doing today. It is highly commendable, adorable and he should encourage it because he has been doing it in the last 15 years even before anything like a pandemic was known.

“Olusegun is a very good party man and a good community leader. He leads by example, he doesn’t talk to talk, he walks to walk, and here is a person who has never had access to the government pause, doesn’t have access to the government budget, and never had a public office and yet for the last 15 years he has taken from his own surplus from his private business and given to reduce the poverty and increase the comfort and the well beings amongst the people of Ikoyi Obalenda, LCDA.”
