2022: PDP Can’t Return to Power in Ekiti Soon, Lawmaker Boasts
Victor Ogunje in Ado Ekiti
A member of the House of Representatives, Omowumi Ogunlola, has predicted victory for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the June 18,2022 governorship poll in Ekiti State, saying the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) can’t return to power soon.
Speaking in Aramoko-Ekiti, Ekiti-West Council Area of Ekiti state yesterday at an event tagged: “Meet the Constituents”, Ogunlola exuded confidence that the APC would win with wide margin considering impressive achievements of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
Ogunlola, representing Ekiti West/ /Ijero/Efon Federal Constituency, said the PDP would have difficulty in persuading the Ekiti people to vote out APC because the governor has endeared the party to many through his populist policies, which has made life abundant for the masses.
Reeling out her achievements, Ogunlola revealed that she has done creditably well in areas of youth and women empowerment, skill acquisition programmes, educational enhancement and socio-economic development.
Ogunlola added that she had sponsored three bills which have scaled through the first reading, adding that the bills when finally passed would have direct impacts on the well-being of Nigerians.
“I feel very excited to state that in the last two years and five months I have been in the House of Representatives on behalf of my great people, we have changed the narrative of representation in Ijero/Ekiti-West/Efon constituency for better.
“It is imperative to note that as legislator, my primary duty and responsibility is to make laws for the peace, order and good governance of the nation, but I seized every opportunity at my disposal to bring development to our people.
“To the glory of God I have been able to construct a maternity health centre in Ejiyan-Ekiti, Police post in Ikoro-Ekiti, an ultra-modern Town Hall in Ijero, install solar lights in various communities in the constituency and construct two blocks of 12 classrooms in Okemesi-Ekiti as well as a block of six classroom in Iroko-Ekiti.
“I also facilitated provision of ICT tools in Ijero High School, trained 2000 youths in vocational skills, distributed 60 sewing machine, 40 generators, 10wheel chairs, 20 grinding machine, 14 vehicles, 61 motorcycles to the constituents.
“Others were construction of two- bedroom flat to a widow in the constituency, solar boreholes in various locations, bursary for students, disbursement of cash to constituents, distribution of WAEC past questions for SS3 students, facilitation of various grants to the constituents,” she added.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Works and governorship aspirant on the platform of APC ahead of the 2022 Ekiti election, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has tasked the citizens to offer prayers for God’s intervention in the June 18 poll.
The leader of the South-west Agenda for Tinubu 2023 presidential ambition(SWAGA), said the best intervention would be for God to be merciful and give the state the deserved governor that would make the right sacrifices for Ekiti greatness in all spheres, as King David did to Israel.
The SWAGA leader spoke in a statement in Ado Ekiti yesterday, congratulating the citizens on the Christmas and New year celebrations.
The former Minister described the next poll as central and pivotal to Ekiti greatness, which requires prayers for election not only to be free, fair, credible and violence-free, but for the electorate to make the right decisions from party primaries to the main election.
Adeyeye urged the citizens, especially the leaders to be guided by the spirit surrounding Christmas, which symbolises the birth of Jesus Christ in their daily activities, for Nigeria to assume that greatness it deserves.
“The 2022 Ekiti governorship election is central to our greatness. It is another year for us to take decision that would either make or mar us as a people, so we need to pray for God’s guidance and this period offers that unique opportunity .
“The birth of Jesus Christ conveys the messages of love , sacrifices, fear of God, holiness and eternal life. All these unique features must reflect in our daily lives. They must be our guide for the dream of achieving a great society to be plausible.
“We need a governor that will make Ekiti proud in 2022. Someone who feels the plights of the people. Someone who understands the terrain ,our problems and how best to resolve them.
“A leader, who loves other citizens and living a holy life won’t steal people’s money while followers exhibiting such won’t sell their votes on election day and bring a leader that can’t serve them optimally”.
