How P-Square Influenced My Career – Music Artist, Japhman

Being a music artist is never a sprint but a marathon that requires a growth process. And oftentimes, the growth process is nurtured by someone or people who awake a genius in others. This is a scenario that awoke a music artist cum hype man known as Japhman, born Japhet Attah Egwumah.

Japhman had his first stage experience in 2005 alongside the legendary music duo, P-Square at the height of their career. It was an experience that impacted on the hype man and set the trajectory of a growth process that birthed a music artist of great potential.

Recalling the experience, Japhman submitted in an interview, “ My first experience on stage was with the up and coming group P-Square. It was a wonderful experience for me. Their energy and their story really inspired me to want to do more within my own career. Their songs highlighted their life experiences and helped me to persevere and never give up on entertainment. They made me understand that consistency is key and this has really helped alot with my personal growth.”

Japhman, who has also turned out as a comedian, host and actor, has revealed that the real passion to carve a niche for himself in the entertainment space began in the church. He was a member of the choir in his Catholic church. According to him, he was also a member of his school drama group where he was always teased as the African Will Smith.

The encounter with the singing twins, P-Square was a needed push that added flame to his smouldering and burning passion. It was no big surprise that he was crushed emotionally when the twins parted ways.

“I was very sad to hear about their separation, mostly because they were not only artists working together, but brothers. They were one of my biggest inspirations and they truly helped me to build my courage, so I was very happy to hear that they decided to reunite. I’ve never stopped following them or listening to and liking their music,” he said.

Japhet Attah Egwumah a.k.a Japhman was born in the northern part of Nigeria, Kaduna State but hails from Ibaji local government area of Kogi state. He presently lives in Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.

He graduated from Kogi State University with a Bachelor’s degree in physics. He started his professional career in 2004 at Kogi State University, having his first performance on stage alongside w P-Square in 2005.
