Bayelsa House of Assembly Approves another N30bn Loan

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly yesterday approved another loan of N30 billion for the state. The approval came barely one month after Governor Duoye Diri celebrated his two years in office.
The governor, immediately he came into office, borrowed about N3.9 billion which he said was used to secure official cars for himself and his political appointees.
Also that as at June, 2021 according to debt management office, Bayelsa State debt profile stood at over N150.60 billion.
And this time around he is asking for another loan of N30 billon which, according to a letter read on the floor of the house was for the construction of Brass Nember road, completion of Yenagoa Oporoma road, Ukubie Yenagoa eoad among others.
Approving the loan the loan, which was okayed by about two third of the members of the House, the Speaker of the House, Abraham Ingobere, representing Brass Constituency 3, said that borrowing of loans was part of the governance.
He said: ” Borrowing is part of government. There is a section of the constitution that gives room to for borrowing.
” The way and manner the money the loan will be paid back is also good. The only way to make progress is to support the government.
” If you are doubting what the government is doing you can go to the sites where these jobs are going on.
“Our governor is a very prudent man. Very soon, he will come and present the supplementary budget. Bayelsans should not be afraid.
” Extending roads to these rural communities is taking development to the communities. The public is also at liberty to go to the project site to ascertain what is on ground.”
