The Chairman of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and the
Governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni Monday resumed at the APC national secretariat of the party after he regained control of the party.
Recall that some governors moved against Buni over his refusal to conduct the party’s convention, before the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari who directed that the party maintained status quo ante.
Buni arrived at the secretariat around 3:25 pm and was warmly received by staff of the party.
The chairman also inaugurated the media committee for Saturday’s convention.
THISDAY gathered that the party will commence the screening of aspirants vying for various party positions Tuesday.
The screening according to the timetable and schedule of activities ought to have started last Saturday and ended on Sunday, but the late submission of forms by aspirants didn’t allow the screening to commence.
THISDAY had reported on Monday that the harmonisation of screening committees was halting the commencement of the screening of aspirants vying for various positions in the National Working Committee (NWC).
However, the screening exercise will commence Tuesday following the harmonisation of the committees set up by Buni and Niger state Governor, Abubakar Bello, who acted while Buni was away.
But a party source who pleaded anonymity informed THISDAY Monday that the committees had been harmonised and the screening will commence Tuesday.
He said: “We have stopped the sale of forms. The aspirants are still submitting forms but the sale of forms have been stopped. The screening will commence tomorrow. The lists will be ready today.
“The list of the aspirants are being compiled zone by zone as requested by the screening committee so that it will be convenient for them during the screening. That’s what they are sorting out now.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Media Committee for the APC Convention, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said that the governors of the party have resolved their differences and have put behind them all the bickering witnessed in recent weeks.
Sule stated this on Monday in Abuja at the inauguration of the Media Committee and its various subcommittees.
The Governor, in a statement issued by the Secretary of the committee and the Special Adviser to the President on Media, Garba Shehu revealed that the Committee had broken into subcommittees that had speedily moved on on their various assignments aimed at delivering a successful Convention six days from today.
He said “ The Leadership of the party under Governor Mai Mala and the members of the caretaker committee are making every effort to take everyone along and I believe it is the only path for a successful Convention and victory at elections. We believe in unity in diversity, and this is the mantra of our Convention.”
Abdullahi said all was well in the party, adding that the plans for the Convention taking place on the 26th are fully on course.
