Sunday Aborisade in Abuja

Frontline aspirant for the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the former Governor of Gombe State and lawmaker representing Gombe Central, Senator Mohammad Danjuma Goje at his Asokoro residence.

The meeting is in continuation of Senator Sani Musa’s outreach and consultations with leaders within the APC ahead of the March 26 national convention.

Senator Sani Musa, in his address, explained that the current issues bedeviling the party at the moment were temporary and with the right leadership, it will all be surmounted.

While reeling out his plans for the party if elected APC chairman, Sani Musa expressed optimism that he would unite all aggrieved persons, provide a level playing field for all and enshrine the principles of internal democracy in the running of the party affairs.

The APC chieftain stressed further that he intends to institutionalise the APC being the largest party in Africa to groom leaders, support elected party officials and carry out a holistic restructuring of the entire party architecture.

Musa, who is the Chairman of the Senate

Services Committee, also promised to adapt to a participatory work style that will usher visionary and pacesetting leadership for the party that will guarantee affirmative actions.

“Under my leadership the party will embrace more technology in our operations which will reduce waste and abuse of our party best practices.

“We’ll run a party that will preserve the legacy of our founding fathers to build a strong country that is more tolerant, more prosperous and fairer by giving every member of the party equal opportunity,” he said

In his remarks, Senator Goje, laid emphasis on the need for the party to support an energetic and a trustworthy candidate who is self-made and will not be tempted by inducements from corrupt politicians aspiring for political offices.

Senator Goje praised Sani Musa’s effort and commitment on his Chairmanship blueprint geared towards rebuilding the party from bottom-up in order to ensure every member’s interest is accommodated within the confines of the party’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Musa has said the current communication gap between the leaders of the party and the aspirants should be bridged for a better understanding.

Musa stated this while featuring on a Channels Television flagship programme, Sunday Politics monitored by our correspondent yesterday  in Abuja.

He spoke against the backdrop of insinuation that President Muhammadu Buhari already had a preferred choice among the aspirants.

The Senator lamented that information on the social media regarding the choice of the President was usually different from the official verdict of those who are very close to Buhari.

He nevertheless said the President has the right, as the leader of the party to have a preference and that he would not mind if he was the chosen one.

Musa said: “The President is the leader of the APC and he is for all. Mr President has every right to have a preference. I wouldn’t know if I am his  preference but I wish I am.

“Everyone in APC is my constituency. I don’t know about a bloc or a group of people that would push for me.

“What I know is that we have APC membership and stakeholders and those that are leading the party as of today. All I do is to rally round the organ of the party to seek their support.

On the issue of consensus, he said:

“I am a very loyal party man and I believe in the leadership of Mr. President. He is honest, sincere, and he is a man of integrity.Whatever the president will decide and is officially handled, and I get to know about it, I will go with it especially if that is what the leadership of my party want.

“There is a communication gap and until that gap is bridged, things will be getting wrong.

“Right now, what we get from the social media is very different from what we hear from those who are very close to Mr. President.

“ If the president speaks to us and tell us what he wants us to do, as law abiding citizens of the country and with the respect we have for the president, and his integrity, none of us will stop him from having what he wants.”

Musa said he would defeat all his contenders in a free and fair contest.
