Lorient’s Bonke Replaces Injured Ndidi in Clash with Ghana

WORLD CUP PLAYOFFS 

French Ligue 1 midfielder with Lorient,  Innocent Bonke, has been drafted as late replacement for the injured Wilfred Ndidi, ahead Nigeria’s  2022 World Cup qualifying playoffs with Ghana.

Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji confirmed the invite to Bonke yesterday. The news was later posted on the team’s Twitter hand.

The Leicester’s midfield enforcer injured his knee  in the Europa Conference League clash with Rennes last week.

Foxes Manager, Brendan Rodgers, later confirmed Ndidi’s injury in his post-match interview.

Although Leicester lost the second leg 1-2, the advantage from the first leg ensured they advanced into the quarter-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Ndidi, who was in Leicester’s starting 11 against Rennes, had to go off in the 60th minute after sustaining the injury.

Bonke made his debut for the Super Eagles on 7th September 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde, which ended a 2–1 in favour of the Eagles.

He has made seven league appearances for Lorient since joining them in the January transfer from Swedish club Malmo.
