House: Court Judgement on Electoral Act Offends Principles of Separation of Power

*I won’t allow the parliament to be ridiculed, Gbajabiamila vows

The House of Representatives at the plenary, Wednesday condemned the recent judgment by a Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, which ordered deletion of Section 84(12) of the newly amended Electoral Act 2022.
Justice Evelyn Anyadike, had in the judgment, held that the Section of the Act was unconstitutional, invalid, illegal, null, void and of no effect whatsoever. The court ordered the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to “forthwith delete the said sub-section 12 of Section 84 from the body of the Electoral Act.”
But, the lawmakers across party lines debating the matter when Hon. Sada Soli (APC, Katsina) brought it under matters of privilege challenged the judgement of the court, describing it as encroaching the principle of separation of powers.
Gbajabiamila, in his contribution said despite the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari was expected to take legal advice, he won’t allow the institution (House of Representatives) which he heads to be ridiculed.
