The Kwara State Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Saadatu Modibbo Kawu, has resigned to enable her run for elective office in 2023.

Kawu, however, said she would be contesting for the Ilorin East/South federal constituency of the state on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next elections.

The resignation of the former commissioner was in line with the order of the state Governor, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, that any political appointees seeking to contest in 2023 general election must resign from office on or before April 15, 2022.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin  shortly after she resigned her appointment during a media parley organised by the Correspondents Chapel of the state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ilorin, Hajiya Kawu said she is out to offer ideas and opinions that would move the country forward.

She said she also took the bold decision in furtherance of her determination to serve her people at the National Assembly and to put the federal constituency in the world map of qualitative representation.

The former commissioner said she understands the challenges facing the people of her constituency, and that if elected, she will do everything humanly possible to address the challenges.

She expressed satisfaction over the turn around that the education sector witnessed during her tenure as commissioner.

Kawu thanked the state Governor, AbdulRazaq, for the opportunity given to her to serve in what she described as his purposeful administration.
