EFCC Arrests Ex-Zamfara Gov, Yari

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari. The anti-graft agency also arrested the Chairman and Managing Director of Finex Professional, Mr Anthony Yaro, over  their alleged role in N84billion fraud involving former Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).Sources told THISDAY thatYari, who was picked up at about 5pm yesterday allegedly benefited to the tune of N22bn through Finex Professional, from the N84billion which the former AGF paid one Akindele.

It would be recalled that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC last week  arrested the Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, in connection with  diversion of funds and money laundering  activities to the tune of N80 billion.

A statement by EFCC said “its verified intelligence showed that the AGF  raked off the funds through bogus consultancies and other illegal activities using proxies, family members and close associates”. It said the funds were laundered through real estate investments in Kano and Abuja.The anti-graft agency said Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.Ahmed remains in EFCC detention.
