Fashion Entrepreneurs Charged on Innovation, Consistency

Operators in the fashion industry have been advised to step up on their game to be able to harness the numerous prospects in the sector.

Chief Executive Officer of Alani Empire, Martins Ezekiel gave the advice recently at “Styleblock Fashion exhibition” organised for budding fashion businesses in Lagos recently.

The programme put together by Alani Empire gathered players in the various subsectors of fashion including fabric sellers, designers, tailors and cobblers, among others.

Ezekiel stated that the initiative was thought of to boost the visibility of fashion entrepreneurs, especially those operating on a small scale, adding that most fashion exhibitions and events do not consider or capture smaller businesses in the industry.

He said, “We observed that most industry events don’t have space for budding fashion entrepreneurs, hence we put up this programme to accommodate the smaller ones to give them visibility and spotlight.”

He noted that the sector is a dynamic one that required creativity and innovativeness, and thus urged operators to continue to develop themselves in this wise to remain relevant and to be able to retain customers patronage after they might have achieved the needed exposure.

He equally advised business owners to be consistent and remain focus on their passion and not to be too carried away by monetary gains.

Ezekiel further pleaded with the government to provide enabling environment for operators, noting that the sector is a major economy booster, if given necessary support.

“The indigenous fashion industry is booming like never before as more people are coming to embrace our local products. Government should wake up to the needs in the sector and players should also play their part by being consistent.  I can assure you that in the next ten years, Nigeria will be a global brand to reckon with in fashion,” he said.

One of the participants and skincare expert, Aisha Awonuga commended the initiative and urged Lagos State government to emulate such to be able to simplify access to market for operators, amongst other benefits.
