The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, said on Sunday that  President Muhammadu Buhari has not directed that the party’s 2023 presidential ticket should go to any particular geopolitical zone of the country.

Some reports had claimed that Buhari had directed the selection of a standard-bearer of southern origin.
Buhari and the party leaders had met with the aspirants at the State House in Abuja, on Saturday night.

The spokesperson for the National Chairman of the APC, Muhammad Nata’ala Keffi, however, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, quoting his principal, said that the gathering didn’t discuss zoning.

Keffi noted that such claims were false, mischievous and misleading.
He said the president only advised the aspirants to build “a consensus that would help the party reduce the number of aspirants and bring up a formidable candidate”.

Part of the statement read: “From the quotations from Mr. President’s speech, there is nowhere where zoning was mentioned.

“We call on the public to disregard any information about the zoning of the presidential contest to any part country.
“What Mr President want is the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians; no more, no less.”
The statement added that APC is desirous of a credible and acceptable candidate who can move Nigeria forward with sincerity of purpose.
