Will Jimoh Ibrahim Win This Time?
Highlife
It is always interesting to see Nigerians continuing to strive in spite of ridiculous odds. The current Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (GCFR) had to try time and again before he could get into Aso Rock as chief democratic potentate. As for Jimoh Ibrahim, the Ondo State-born businessman and philanthropist, the grand era of the senatorial is now his choice.
Ibrahim has tried repeatedly to become the Governor of Ondo. Unfortunately, one way or another, he tended to lose at the last step. Some people have likely told him that what will be will be and success is not far from him if he keeps trying. Fortunately for him, reason won out when Ibrahim decided to try for the Senate as the candidate representing Ondo South Senatorial District.
It is not all that surprising that Ibrahim managed to clinch the senatorial ticket for Ondo South under the auspices of the All Progressives Congress (APC). After all, the man has been trying to be governor for a long time now, so he has connections in high places and is well-known among the Ondo South—nay, even across the entire state.
It is expected that Ibrahim will lead APC to victory in the 2023 senatorial elections unless something unexpected happens. Nevertheless, there is a good chance for Ibrahim—once again, because he is well-known to the people. This was how he is reported to have gotten 190 votes out of the 330 votes cast during the APC senatorial primaries. The runner-up, Mathew Oyerinmade, got only 92 votes.
So, the Providence of politics might finally be smiling down on Ibrahim. Perhaps the same ‘luck’ he has wielded in building up his Global Fleet Group has finally taken form in the political scene as well.
Nevertheless, time will tell what shall come out of Ibrahim’s intentions.
