Anglican Archbishop, Chukwuma, Asks Buhari to Resign over Rising Insecurity

The Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province and Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Church of the Anglican Communion, Emmanuel Chukwuma has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to resign over his administration’s inability to tackle the worsening insecurity in the country.

The archbishop who made the call yesterday, during his pre-Synod press conference warned that a revolution which would chase away those holding the country captive was underway.

Chukwuma noted that the church was concerned about the state of the nation, particularly as it relates to insecurity, adding that the time has come for Nigerians to prepare for a revolution because ‘enough is enough’.

“Insecurity has become the order of the day,” he said, adding that Nigeria has become a haven for criminals, insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers who have engaged in the wanton destruction of lives and property of citizens.

Chukwuma maintained that Nigerians have endured enough insult, abject poverty and suffering for the past 23 years and that they have so much been taken for granted by leaders in the country.

He said, “the Buhari-led administration has not done enough to protect the people and this is because the number of people who have been killed under the government is more than any other country.”

While accusing security agencies of complicity, Chukwuma said the train attack, the attack at the Kaduna Airport and the killings at the catholic church at Owo, were enough to make the Nigerian ggovernment realise that terrorists had crossed the red line.

“It is surprising how we have battalions of soldiers, yet they cannot stop this terrorism,” he said.

“What stops them from going into the forests to clear those who are disturbing the peace of our nation.”

“If they could fish out Nnamdi Kanu, why is it difficult to get these people killing our people in all the cities?

“Nigerian Christians have tolerated for so long, enough is enough. All Christians should rise. The Owo incident is an eye-opener, it is not enough for the Government to sympathise.”

Chukwuma called on youths to ensure that they register and get their Permanent Voter Card, ahead of the 2023 general election, describing it as the only way they could elect credible leaders who would restore everything Nigeria has lost over the years.
