Seyifunmi Michael – The Producer Behind Popular Nigerian Hit Songs

With an illustrious career spanning several hit songs for top-tier artistes, Seyifunmi Michael’s impact is undeniable.

Raised into a family with musical inclination, His passion for music was ignited at a young age as he was surrounded by relatives deeply involved in the art.
Seyifunmi’s musical journey can also be traced back to his early involvement in church choirs and school bands, where his talent and dedication earned him recognition.

From his early days as the go-to music enthusiast among peers to his professional debut as a producer, Seyifunmi’s trajectory in the music industry has been nothing short of remarkable.

“I used to be the boy that everybody comes to when it came to music,” he recounts as he reflects on his musical beginnings. He therefore reminisces about the pivotal moment when he crossed paths with Adekunle Gold, igniting a partnership that would shape the course of their musical careers.

“About 25 years ago, Adekunle came into the picture,” Seyifunmi recalls. “He was more of a singer, and I was more of a music person. We used to do things differently.”

The uniqueness in their approach, evident in the pre-production and other innovative techniques, set them apart from other bands of their time. Seyifunmi’s pioneering courage and sheer creativity with experimentation laid the foundation for their collaborative efforts, culminating in the formation of “The Bridge” group.

His transition into professional music production took centre stage in 2015. Their collaboration reached new heights during the creation of Adekunle Gold’s debut album under the YBNL label, where Seyifunmi’s role as an in-house producer solidified his reputation as a formidable force in the industry.

“We’ve been working together for a very, very long time,” Seyifunmi reflects on his enduring partnership with Adekunle Gold. “But production started fully when we were working on the first album. That’s when it all started.”

Following the GOLD album’s success, Seyifunmi’s expertise attracted attention, leading to collaborations with other notable artists such as Simi Davido and Teni. His versatility extended beyond production, encompassing roles as a composer, arranger, and music director.

Despite briefly stepping away to pursue academic endeavours, Seyifunmi’s commitment to music remained steadfast. The release of Adekunle’s hit single “Sade” served as a catalyst for Seyifunmi’s return to the fold, inspiring him to fully dedicate himself to music production upon completing his degree.

With each project, he reaffirms his status as a visionary producer, shaping the soundscape of Nigerian music for generations to come.
